Spanish Blackjack

The Spanish game of Blackjack, known as Spanish 21 or simply Spanish Blackjack, is a popular variation of the game with rules that benefit the players

This exceptional game of blackjack allows players to Hit and Double after splitting Aces, Surrender after Doubling Down and get much higher payouts on specific 21 hand combinations.

The Rules of the Game

The most remarkable difference about this variation is that all Tens and Face cards have been removed from the decks. This is called “Spanish deck” which has only 48 cards instead of 52.

By removing these cards from the deck (10s and face cards), Online Casinos swing the odds back in their favor by eliminating the possibility of drawing a natural 21 hand.

To make the game still attractive for the player, Spanish 21 has some very unique game rules that benefit the players, for instance, when players create a 21-point hand using between five and seven cards, their bet will payout at as much as 50:1.

Considering that no Ten value cards are being used, it’s much easier to build a 21-hand using multiple cards and Bust happens with lesser frequency.

As with almost any other game of blackjack, the number of decks used can vary from casino to casino but Spanish Blackjack is commonly played using 6 or 8 decks of cards but bear in mind that the lower the number of decks, the lower the houses edge.

Splitting hands is allowed, re-Splitting is also possible even when re-splitting Aces. You’re also allowed to Hit or Double Down after splitting hands, even if it’s a pair of Aces and Doubling Down is possible on any number of cards.

Theres is also the option for Late Surrender even after Doubling-Down. If you choose to Surrender after Doubling Down, the amount of the original bet is reimbursed.

Bear in mind that in Spanish Blackjack the dealer must Hit on 17s. This means that the house has an increased advantage of 0.22%.

Increased Payouts

A player’s 21 will always beat the dealer’s blackjack hand but blackjack hands payout at a different rates depending on how the hand is made up.

For instance, if you build a 21-point hand with five cards, your bet will return at 3:2 – like natural blackjacks. The same hand using 6 cards will payout at 2:1 and any 21 hands created using 7+ cards will payout at 3:1.

There are specific card combinations that offer similar payouts. For example when you create a hand thats 21 in value using 6,7 and 8 or using 3 sevens of mixed suits, this will payout at 3:2. When you create this hand with cards of the same suit, the payout is 2:1 and if its created using Spades, theres a 3:1 payout on your bet.

And last but not least, creating a 21-hand using 3 7s of the same suit when the dealer is showing a 7 will pay out at an incredible 50:1.

To sum up, Spanish Blackjack is not only a blackjack game that offers great fun and attractive winning odds but its also one of few blackjack games where players can enjoy higher than usual payouts without having to wager extra money on side bets.
